What is a Sensory Profile?
A Sensory Profile is an occupational therapy assessment of how a participant takes in and responds to sensory input, such as sound, touch, movement, and light. For many people, sensory processing differences can affect concentration, comfort, and everyday participation. The assessment uses standardised tools and observation to understand a participant’s sensory preferences and needs, and to recommend practical strategies for home, school, or the community
- A clear understanding of sensory needs
- Practical strategies tailored to the participant
- Support for participation at home, school, and beyond
- Evidence the support team can act on
Our Sensory Profile Reports use validated assessment tools to provide objective measurements of sensory processing abilities. This standardised approach ensures consistent, reliable results that reveal how sensory processing patterns support or interfere with functional performance in daily activities
Sensory Profile Reports play a crucial role in understanding behaviours and planning effective interventions. These reports are not just descriptions – they’re analytical tools that help families, educators, and therapists understand the ‘why’ behind certain behaviours and responses. A comprehensive Sensory Profile Report provides insights by identifying:
- Individual sensory processing patterns across all sensory systems
- Specific sensory inputs that trigger seeking, avoiding, or withdrawal behaviours
- How sensory processing impacts participation in daily activities
- Sensory differences that may explain challenging behaviours
- Environmental modifications that can support better regulation
- A foundation for ongoing occupational therapy intervention and strategy development
